From the train/bus station, take a taxi to the university. Tell the driver to send you to 'Aras Ui Chathail' of NUIG. If they do not know the building, ask them to send u to Aula Maxima/the Quadrangle.

Then, walk towards Aras Na Mac Leinn (Student Centre). After that, walk towards BOI ATM machine on your left (if your facing towards Aras Na Mac Leinn) and you will pass through a wall full with poster marks on your left.

Then, turn right and walk a few metres. Aras Ui Chathail is on your right. There will be a mini bazaar insyaAllah in Aras Na Mac Leinn. If you can spot any Malaysians or students, just ask where Aras Ui Chathail / Administration Building is.

:: How To Get to Galway ::

From Dublin

1. Citylink Bus

There are buses hourly from Dublin Airport or Dublin City (Burgh Quay). Walk along the road parallel to the river, in front of the tall Heineken building, moving away from the bridge. You will find a pole with 'Citylink' sign.

The price for a ticket is 15-19 Euros (depending on what type of ticket are you buying. Always show your student ID when buying. The trip takes around 4 hours. For the timetable, please refer to Citylink's website.

2. Go Bus

Only available from Dublin Airport. Their route bypasses the City, so it takes a shorter time to reach Galway.However, the number of trips is lesser than Citylink. Please click here for the timetable. The ticket price is 15-25 Euros.

3. By train

This is the fastest way to reach Galway. It takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes. The ticket price is 31-48 Euros for a return ticket. Student travel card holders can get the 31 Euros price.

4. By car

Please refer to google maps or other sources for directions. The duration of the trip is approximately 3 hours.

You can also use Bus Eireann but it will take a longer time. Citylink and GoBus is faster. But u may check their website, just in case the their timing is better. (in terms of departure and arrival times)

From Cork

1. Bus Eireann

The price is 20-26.10 Euros. It take approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes. You are advised to take the (latest) 6.25pm bus on Saturday (24th of Jan) as the earliest bus that departs on Sunday will arrive at Galway at 11.45 am. To look for the schedule, visit buseireann's website and look for Route 51 of the Expressway Services.

2. By Car

Please refer to google maps or other sources. It takes approximately 3 Hours (according to Google Maps)

After the ‘Nakba’ (catastrophe) in 1948 resulting to ethnic cleansing of 2/3 of the Palestinian population, they were continued to be denied the right of statehood and self determination by the state of occupation that started since 1967. For 60 years, thousands of innocent lives have been murdered, families are forced out of their homes, and treated mercilessly with unjust.

Following the recent attacks in GAZA on the 27th of December, over three hundred Palestinians have been killed and around 1,400 have been injured in a series of air raids on the Gaza Strip. The numbers are continuing to significantly rise.

In response to this, Federation of Students Islamic Societies, (FOSIS) Ireland, together with Malaysians Muslim Students Association Ireland (PPIMI), Islamic Medical Association Malaysia (IMAM), and Kelab UMNO Dublin (KUD) would like to extend our concern towards the victims of inhumanity in Palestine.

We have agreed to join together to mobilise the students population in universities and colleges to fundraise and create awareness towards aiding and liberating the state and people of Palestine. These will be done through numerous methods and will be initiated through our organizations from now until the 15th of February 2008.

Fund raised will be transferred directly to Islamic Relief which is now among the charity organization actively working in GAZA.

:: Rules and Regulations ::

7.1 Participants

1. This competition is opened to all muslimins.

2. Each participating team may consist up to 10 people. Solo performance is allowed.

3. During registration, each participating team need to submit their poster or group picture to be included in NexT-E 09's official blog and booklet. Dateline for the poster/picture is 18th January 2009. An example of the poster required can be viewed here (Munawwar).

4. Maximum time allowed for each performance is 10 minutes. The number of songs is unlimited as long as they are within the 10 minutes provided. *Subject to change. May differ when the number of participants is finalized.

5. Any nasyeed songs or songs conveying good messages are allowed. However, love songs except Allah and Muhammad p.b.u.h is strictly not allowed. Songs are not restricted to the theme i.e. ‘A New Beginning’.

6. There must be at least one part of the performance which is dedicated to Gaza. It can be of any form (poem, songs etc.)

7. Non-English songs need to have English translations prepared in advance using PowerPoint/Flash/videos. The PowerPoint/Flash/videos will be shown during the performance. Marks are given for this. (Please refer to Judging Criteria below) This must be submitted to the committee by 23rd January 2009 (Friday).

8. Participants are encouraged to create their own songs.

7.2 Attire and Instruments

1. Attire of participants will also be judged. It needs to be appropriate and decent but creative or different at the same time - whether it represents your nationalities’ attire or etc.

2. Types of instruments used are not restricted. The organizers will provide congas, bongos, shaker and a tamborine.

3. Minus one is allowed.

7.3 Registration

1. Registration of participants entering this competition is on a first come first serve basis.

2. Each participating team are required to pay a registration fee of €15. Payment made is non-refundable.

3. Closing date for registration is 21st January 2009.

7.4 Judging criteria

Songs selection/suitability/appreciation towards the meaning of the song (penghayatan) - 40 m

Vocal / Showmanship - 40 m

Video/script supported - 20 m

Attire - 10 m

Bonus point – credit from judges (including original songs) - 10 m

TOTAL 120 marks

The criteria above will contribute 60% of the final points. Another 40% will be contributed by the audience through voting.

The judges are Ustaz Erfino Johari and Syed Muhammad Izzat from the Malaysian nasyeed group, Mirwana. Judges decision are final.

Experience in local music industry:

Izzat is a member of Mirwana a nasyeed group from SMKA Maahad Hamidiah and had recorded 6 albums under the school curricular activities which was also known as an underground nasyid scene. After finishing high school in 1997, there were market demands in nasyid songs which inspired Izzat and his friends to take their talent onto the next level. He got the opportunity to record in other artists’ album as featuring and back up vocals in numerous projects. Performing from small charity shows to the prestigious award events, he also contributed in many live events and concerts ever since. After 13 years of hard work, Universal Music has finally agreed to sign them up and released their first commercial album in 2004.

1.0 Introduction

Nasyeed has become an alternative entertainment for Muslims all over the world. Traditionally, nasyeed is only accompanied by simple percussions but now, nasyeed is morphing into an amazing genre. One can always find nasyeed songs in various different beats such as Pop and R&B. No matter what beat it may be, the most important component of nasyeed is the message that it conveys.

Nasyeed Extravaganza (NEXT) is a nasyeed competition that aims to put forward nasyeed to the public. NEXT started in Sheffield, UK when Sheffield Malaysian Student Association (SMSA) initiated this nasyeed event in 2005. It has become an annual event since then and the response has been very positive so far. However, most participants are only those studying in the UK. With that in mind, the Muslim Youth Society is bringing NexT closer to the Irish community by organizing Nasyeed Extravaganza Eire (NexT-E) with the aim that it will be an annual event in Ireland as well.

2.0 Theme of NexT-E 2009

Since this will be the very first NexT-E, the theme ‘A New Beginning’ is chosen. It symbolizes NexT-E 09 that we hope to be a stepping stone in Ireland. In addition to that, the awful tragedy in Gaza has been a main concern throughout the world, especially among Muslims. Hence, NexT-E 2009 will be dedicated for Gaza. Fundraising activities for Gaza will be done. All proceeds will be channeled through Federation Of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS).

3.0 Objectives

To gain the blessings of the Creator.
To raise funds and create awareness regarding the endless tragedy in Gaza.
To demonstrate Islam is a religion of fitrah and it is the fitrah or nature of human being to enjoy entertainment. Nevertheless, in Islam, there are guidelines to be followed.
To foster bonds among the Islamic societies throughout Ireland and the Irish community, Muslims and non-muslims alike. This event will be a medium for them to know each other and strengthen the bonds between them.
To do dakwah or convey good messages through nasyeed. Many seem to forget that nasyeed is not just about entertaining oneself but it is also an effective platform to put across messages to the listeners.
